This issue of Spinning Jenny is thick with poems that regularly make syntax irregular. ... A lack of contributor’s notes also gives Black Dress Press’s journal a black sheep feel, among a flock of literary journals. ... [W]hat I found most alluring in these 86 pages is the quirky transitions between poems. ... Spinning Jenny 8 features multiple poems by the same poet, a trend among journals, though not so much a trend as to have grown tired. Like every approach, this one comes with risks. The upside: getting a better grasp on a certain poet’s work. The downside: enjoying one poem by X poet but not another. I applaud Spinning Jenny for its whimsy and risk, for once again giving a variety of voices an arena in which to makke loud their voices.
